ABOUT THE SHOW

MDC’s Associate Performance Academy commenced rehearsals in early 2020 in preparation for their mid-year performance.

Now, in 2022, we are finally able to present this highly dynamic and technical showcase: ‘I Am SHE’.

With two new works, choreographed by MDC Directors Alfie Scalia and Daniel Ryan, performers will present themes, emotions and ideas around the concept of the feminine.

Drawing from the lives and thoughts of our performers, the show gives a unique and individual perspective on who is SHE. A dynamic performance filled with spectacle, emotion and spirit. Cast and creatives of ‘I Am SHE’ will take audiences on a rollercoaster ride into this thrilling examination of human spirit.

SYNOPSIS

ACT I: THE IMAGINARIUM

You are cordially invited to the Imaginarium.
A place of reflection and self-discovery. Where the person you see in the mirror may or may not be the one you expect.
It is advised to not linger overly long or look too deeply, for it can be hard to find your way back out.

Concept and choreography by Daniel Ryan

ACT II: SHE

Trapped in a mind cage, suffocating under the weight of thoughts heavy as steel, She longs to be free. Free and with a lightness of being, cleansed from all that holds her back.

Her spirit untethered holds endless possibility. An identity hers in the making without the oppressive weight of the expectations of others. A freak, an abomination, a terror, a Goddess.

The true representation of her heart and soul and ego. The way She was born to be.

Concept and choreography by Alfie Scalia
